All Saints Abbey was constructed just outside the wall of Lund about 1138, the year Bishop Eskil was elevated to Archbishop of Lund by Pope Innocent II. The complex consisted of a three range set of buildings connected to the abbey church.

Eskil var ærkebiskop i Lund. Eskil tilhørte en af 1100-tallets mest berømte familier, Thrugotslægten, og fik sin uddannelse ved den højt anskrevne domskole i Hildesheim. Han blev kannik i Lund, hvor hans farbror Asser fra 1104 var ærkebiskop. I et brev af 1133 nævnes Eskil som domprovst. I 1134 blev Eskil udnævnt til biskop af Roskilde.

Eskil var brorsønn av den første erkebiskopen, sin forgjenger Asser, som begynte oppførelsen av Lund domkirke. Under Eskil ble domkirken innviet. Eskil ble i 16-årsalderen sendt til Hildesheim i Sachsen for å studere. Målet var en geistlig karriere, og han ble kannik i Lund og etter hvert domprost.
